Description: CPA plans to pursue legislation to grant prescriptive authority (RxP) to licensed psychologists with advanced degrees and training in prescribing psychotropic medications to increase access to appropriate mental health treatment for Coloradans. As part of the strategic planning, CPA is planning to provide a series of webinars targeting the education about the historical background of RxP and the future direction for this needed effort. In this CE credit webinar, we have two prescribing psychologists from New Mexico, which is the first state in the nation to grant RxP to psychologists. We are excited to hear from the experts on their experience with the legislative process in New Mexico and how we can incorporate their success into our needs in Colorado.

Speakers

Jinsoon Lee, PsyD., MSCP, BCB
Jin Lee, Psy.D., MSCP, BFB is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in serving children, adolescents, and young adults with medical conditions. She also works as a concussion psychologist at the Rocky Mountain Pediatric OrthoONE Center for Concussion. Dr. Lee is also a chair of the Colorado Prescriptive Authority initiative Task Force. 

Dr. Lee earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UCLA and Masters and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at an APA-accredited program at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, CAShe completed her internship in rehabilitation psychology and fellowship in hematology/oncology department at Children’s Hospital Colorado. 

Her passion in serving patients with medical conditions has inspired her to pursue further training and education including a board certification in biofeedback and postdoctoral master’s degree in clinical psychopharmacology at Fairleigh Dickinson University, an APA-accredited program.

Dr. Lee’s interests include identifying psychosocial needs and providing appropriate and services for children, adolescents, and young adults with chronic illnesses including post-concussion syndrome, chronic pain, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. Her ultimate goal is to empower patients to regain control of their life. She authored several book chapters discussing chronic pain management, health psychology, and complimentary and alternative medicine.

Elaine S. LeVine, Ph.D., ABMP
Elaine S. LeVine, Ph.D, ABMP, is the first prescribing psychologist in New Mexico (which is the first state in the United States to grant prescriptive authority to properly-trained psychologists). Dr LeVine specializes in individual and family psychotherapy and psychotropic management of mental disorders. She has been a tenured professor and adjunct faculty at New Mexico State University and has maintained a private practice for over 40 years. Dr LeVine has published three scholarly books and numerous journal articles on various aspects of human development, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology. Her text in child psychotherapy, Listen to the Children , was published in three editions. Evelyn’s Golden Leaf is her first publication written for children with the goals that it will delight and, also, offer helpful ideas for personal growth.

Dr. Jo Velasquez, PhD, MSCP, BCN
Dr. Jo Velasquez earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of California at Irvine, in 1986. She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology-Alliant International University in 1994. Pre-doctoral internships were completed at

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the University of California at Irvine Counseling Center. She spent two years at the University of California at Davis as a staff psychologist where she completed her post- doctoral hours. She was licensed as a psychologist in California in 1995, in Nevada in 1997 and in the State of New Mexico in 2012.

As a licensed psychologist in Nevada, she set up a full-time private practice where she provided general clinical psychology services as well as clinical and forensic psychological and neuropsychological examinations in both Spanish and English for adults, adolescents and children. She served as a forensic psychology expert and fact witness to the 8th Judicial District Family Court and provided IME- Psychological Exams and provided treatment for injured workers under Nevada’s Industrial Law.

In 2010, she enrolled in the post-doctoral master of science in clinical psychopharmacology program at Alliant International University-San Francisco and graduated in 2012. In 2014, she completed her practicum in clinical psychopharmacology at La Clinica de Familia under Gaston Berrios, MD, Director of Family Medicine, Chaparral, New Mexico. She served as the Director of Training in Clinical Psychopharmacology at New Mexico State University for a year and a half and resigned from the position when she launched her new company iNetMed Rx², Inc. She received her conditional prescriptive certificate in 2015 and has worked as an independent prescribing psychologist in New Mexico since 2017.

Currently, she is owner and Chief Operating Officer of iNetMed Rx², Inc a psychiatric and psychological services and behavioral medicine management company in Las Cruces, New Mexico. iNetMed Rx², Inc provides the following clinical services: medication management, psychopharmacotherapy, neuropsychological and psychological assessments, psychotherapy and biofeedback services. iNetMed Rx², Inc was founded in June 2015
