Instructors
Alyssa Oland, Ph.D
Dr. Oland is a pediatric psychologist at National Jewish Health, and is in the Division of Pediatric Behavioral Health. Dr. Oland’s specialty is treating children with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Her research interests are applied clinical research to assess efficacy of treatment programs and identify ways to improve quality of care provided to patients and families, factors that promote resilience, factors associated with post-traumatic growth, and patient and family factors associated with clinical presentation, response to treatment, and treatment outcome.
Gary Eisenberg, Ph.D
Dr. Gary Eisenberg received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of South Florida. He received advanced training in child and adolescent psychology. He is a specialist in diagnostics including learning disabilities, emotional and developmental problems plus autism. He is ADOS-2 certified as well as a Certified Autism Specialist. Currently he is in private practice in Littleton, CO. He is serving as a consultant to both the Disabilities and Athletic Departments of Florida Atlantic University. In private practice he is a specialist in the Psychoeducational Evaluations. To date, he has seen over 8000 patients. He is a past president of the Child, Adolescent and Family Division of the Florida Psychological Association. Dr. Eisenberg is also employed as a speaker for Summit Professional Education. He traveled the country giving continuing education to teachers and therapists. His workshop is entitled Complementary Interventions for Autism and ADHD.
Joy Goldberg, Ph.D
Dr. Joy Goldberg has provided pediatric neuropsychology services to children for over 15 years. She received her PhD from the University of Denver and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she completed her internship and worked as a school psychologist in both the Tempe and Glendale elementary school districts. She then completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, specializing in the field of pediatric neuropsychology. After her fellowship, she continued to work at the hospital for six years. She has co-written a book on the importance of neuropsychology and is an active speaker at various conferences. She is a current member of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society, National Academy of Neuropsychology, and is a previous board member of the Colorado Neuropsychological Society and the Arizona Neuropsychological Society.
Karen McGovern
Karen M. McGovern, is a Colorado Registered Nurse as well as a practicing attorney, specializing in defending and advocating for health professionals whose licensure is in jeopardy. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Northern Colorado in 1989. She practiced as a registered nurse for over 10 years before obtaining her law degree at the University of Denver College of Law in 2000. She has also worked as corporate counsel for a Colorado health care company, focusing specifically on risk management issues involving health professionals. Currently, Ms. McGovern is Deputy Director at Division of Professions and Occupations, Colorado Dept. of Regulatory Agencies.
Kate McNamara
Kathleen McNamara is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Fort Collins, Colorado. She has worked extensively with court-involved families for over 30 years. She provides Parental Responsibility Evaluations, Parenting Coordinator/Decision-Maker services, therapy for high conflict families, and consultation services to attorneys. She teaches a High Conflict Co-Parenting class and provides Early Neutral Assessment (ENA). She was a tenured Associate Professor of Psychology at Colorado State University before devoting herself to full-time practice. She is a former member and chair of the Colorado Psychological Association Ethics Committee. Currently, she serves on the Board of the Directors for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), Editorial Board of the Family Court Review and is on the Colorado Supreme Court Standing Committee on Family Issues.
Susan Lewis, J.D., Ph.D
Dr. Lewis licensed psychologist in Colorado and Massachusetts. She is a trained forensic psychologist and an attorney. She moved to Denver 7 years ago. While in Massachusetts, she also maintained a clinical practice, conducted forensic examinations for the courts and worked in a forensic hospital. Dr. Lewis has published 2 books: Law and Ethics for Mental Health Practitioners and From Deep Inside: A Forensic and Clinical Psychologist Journey. She is currently working on a new book, and lectures nationwide on Law and Ethics for Mental Health Practitioners that is designed for the laws of each state she travels to.
Thomas Dunn, Ph.D
Thom Dunn is a professor of psychological sciences at the University of Northern Colorado and a staff psychologist at Denver Health. Dr. Dunn sits on the hospital’s ethics committee and is a former chair of the CPA ethics committee. He served as a subject matter expert in constructing the state of Colorado’s crisis standards of care in the allocation of scarce medical resources (such as ventilators) and for the emergency medical services. He was the project director of a state of Colorado initiative to create behavioral health crisis standards of care – the first state in the nation to do so.
